Purpose and Values

The Office of Volunteer and Civic Engagement Programs (VCE) develops consistent and intentional Volunteer and Civic Engagement programming - connecting UNO’s campus and diverse student body to meaningful opportunities to serve the Omaha community and engage in its civic life.


Volunteer Events and Programming

Each year, UNO organizes and sponsors a set of major service days and events that involve UNO students, faculty, staff, and community partners.

  • These one-time volunteer opportunities support local nonprofit organizations for one hour at a time.

The UNO community can sign up to receive emails about volunteer and civic engagement opportunities. These are usually sent monthly throughout the fall and spring semester.

Civic Engagement

Civic Engagement allows students to address our society's social and cultural issues. UNO has a long history of being a top university for voter engagement. Beyond this, students have opportunities to have meaningful dialogue on what it means to advocate, how government operates, and opportunities to engage in civic learning, such as the annual “I Love NU Day” at the Nebraska state capitol.
