Meet the Finalists

Following an extensive national search, finalists have been identified for the position of Associate Vice Chancellor for Global Engagement.  Finalists will be on campus throughout the month of February.  Campus and community members are invited to attend a public forum where the finalists will discuss the landscape of international higher education.  Feedback on each candidate will be invited following each campus visit.

Andrea Stiefvater headshot

Dr. Andrea Stiefvater is a seasoned higher education professional specializing in international admissions, global partnerships, and student success initiatives. She serves as Executive Director of Graduate and International Admissions and Services at Ball State University, where she has led strategic enrollment initiatives and institutional internationalization efforts. With a background in faculty roles and administrative leadership, she has developed innovative recruitment strategies and global education programs. Dr. Stiefvater holds an Ed.D. in Literacy and Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) from the University of Cincinnati and is a recognized leader in global education and student engagement​.

Dr. Donald Hempson is a senior international executive with extensive experience in global strategy, higher education, and international research initiatives. As Associate Vice President for International Affairs at Virginia Tech, he has led major institutional transformations, expanded global partnerships, and managed multi-million-dollar budgets. His leadership in international education includes roles at The Ohio State University, where he established innovative global research and academic programs. With a Ph.D. in International Diplomatic and Business Affairs from Ohio State, Dr. Hempson is known for advancing institutional internationalization and global engagement​.

Dr. Jessica Hylton is a dedicated leader in higher education with over 20 years of experience, specializing in international education, student services, and global engagement. She has extensive expertise in international student recruitment, strategic enrollment planning, and partnership development. Currently serving as Interim Director of Global Students and Experiences at the University of Missouri-St. Louis, she has led internationalization initiatives, compliance programs, and cross-cultural student support. Dr. Hylton holds a Doctorate in Higher Education Leadership from Maryville University and is committed to fostering globally minded educational communities​.

About the Search 

The University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) seek a visionary, global-minded leader to serve as the Associate Vice Chancellor for Global Engagement.

The Associate Vice Chancellor (AVC) for Global Engagement has broad and comprehensive leadership responsibility for international student recruitment and enrollment, global partnerships and engagement, and academic programming that intentionally and purposefully broadens the perspectives of all UNO students. The AVC for Global Engagement is the Senior International Officer for the campus, and as such, works closely and collaboratively with senior campus leadership to advance initiatives focused on international students, internationalizing the curriculum, and growing global partnerships.  The position provides executive oversight of the Office of International Programs and reports directly to the Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs.

The ideal candidate will have a graduate degree and significant experience with recruiting, enrolling, and supporting international students.  Individuals with professional administrative experience or academic leadership experience are invited to apply.
